Foundation Mission and Programs
The Hawkins-Gignac Foundation for CO Education is being established to ensure the Hawkins family did not perish in vain. As a registered charity, it will be bound by the requirements and laws of all registered charities in Canada under the Canadian Revenue Agency. The application is currently pending approval.
The Foundation has two primary purposes:

To educate people on the dangers of carbon monoxide gas:
- its sources
- its symptoms
- its statistics
- its prevention and detection

To raise funds to purchase carbon monoxide alarms:
- alarms will be bought at special rates through a national fire department supplier
- fire departments will apply to the Foundation to receive donated alarms
- alarm grants will be tracked and distribution verified in each community
- alarms will never be resold
- To raise funds to equip fire trucks with monitors to test for CO presence in homes during emergency calls
Laurie's family should be proud of all that she accomplished and all the lives that she touched while she was here. Sounds like the whole Hawkins family was one to be proud of. So sorry for the incredible loss that they have been faced with. Their journey now continues on the other side.
